Billy Banda
Red Cap in Zambia

Born in South Luangwa in the vicinity of the National Park, Billy himself was involved in illegal hunting years back. Today he calls those who arrested him "collegues" as they are now working for the same goal: The conservation of wildlife.

Father of six and very much involved in the christian community, Billy is now a highly respected inhabitant from Mfuwe, in the central eastern region of Zambia, and has been working for Awely's partner organisation, the South Luangwa Conservation Society, for five years. Billy has been trained as trainer for chilli farming and has passed his knowledge on to over 250 farmers already.

Since July 2008, he has become Awely's first Red Cap in Zambia. Besides investigations and education he is especially developing the use of chilli to deter elephants from fields and sees a lot of potential in those techniques.
