THE GREEN CAPS
Unlike the Red Caps, who focus on solving conflicts between people and animals, our Green Caps concentrate on giving endangered animal species better chances to survive.
Today, we are coordinating two such programs. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, we are working for our nearest cousins, the bonobos, and in Nepal, we are coordinating actions to help keep tigers from extinction.
In both cases, our teams work closely with our target groups: hunters, bushmeat sellers, leaders of village committees, those using the resources of protected areas… by working side-by-side with them, we are able to promote initiatives that benefit both the villagers and the ecosystems. Among these projects are microprograms on breeding, creating small shops, or learning about microcredits.
Similarly to the Red Cap programs, our Green Caps offer many pedagogical materials prepared by Awely illustrating the scope of our work. Thanks to multiple field missions, often demanding several days of travel away from our base camps, our Green Caps are able to get as close as possible to the conflicts and problems needing resolution, where together with the local people they can implement those initiatives offering the villagers maximum autonomy, and so focus on reducing the pressures on their ecosystem and those animals who live in them.
