THE GREEN CAPS IN CONGO
Precise location: Democratic Republic of Congo. City of Basankusu and eight villages in the bonobo habitat at the South of the city.
Covered area: 14 000 km2
Species involved: Bonobo (Pan paniscus)
Target groups: Hunters, bushmeat sellers, users of bushmeat, rural population.
Overall objectives:
•Evaluate hunting and bushmeat trade on the wild bonobos' populations.
•Stop hunting and trade of bonobos, decrease the pressure on natural forest.
•Development of alternatives to bushmeat trade and consumption of bushmeat by the setting up of microprogrammes and microcredits scheme.
