Cheetah killed by an arrow in the Machakos province, Kenya
The Kamba people use poisons that are made locally and can kill an animal or a person very quickly. The homemade arrow head had missed all the vital organs, thus it is more than possible that she was poisoned. It was found near the edge an area where recent livestock losses were occurring and where people had warned that they wanted to kill the cheetah. CCF Kenya has been doing all they could to inform them about cheetah behaviours and improved livestock management. But this time it was too little too late. Eight cheetahs died because improper land use, increased poaching and drought have caused the cheetahs to feed on livestock for lack of natural prey and the open land where they had lived for so many years.
